The present paper investigates the effects of fasting by activating the metabolic switch from glucose to fat to ketones. This increase in ketones increases in turn the brain energy, with improved cognition. Fasting is known for its multiple health benefits from increased weight loss to better brain functions. It also improves blood sugar control, which is beneficial in type2 diabetes. Fasting leads to lower risk of coronary heart diseases and reduces blood pressure triglycerides and cholesterol level. Fasting also helps in maintaining the hormone cortisol, which helps in reducing stress.

Hydrogen is a clean energy carrier which has a great potential to be an alternative fuel. Abundant biomass from various industries could be a source for bio-hydrogen production where combination of waste treatment and energy production would be an advantage. Nowadays, the large amounts of livestock manure, which come from cattle feedlots, poultry, and swine buildings, are causing a major environmental issue because it has become a primary source of odours, gases, dust, and groundwater contamination. It is well known that anaerobic digestion had successfully been used for the disposal of manures to produce methane in the last two decades. Recently, an alternative strategy has been developed to convert livestock manures (e.g. dairy manures) to bio-hydrogen as a high value-added clean energy source instead of methane. The focus of this study was investigating the performance and optimal operating conditions of bio-hydrogen production from dairy manure feedstock by dairy manure compost and evaluating its feasibility for bio-hydrogen production. The results indicated that it was feasible to produce hydrogen from dairy manure by methanogenesis inhibited dark fermentation.

The medicinally active substances were isolated from leaves of Crossandra infundibuliformis by Soxhlet extractor and identified by phytochemical tests. The soxhlet extraction in powdered form was performed using aqueous and methanol. The results of each extracts confirm the active substances such as carbohydrates, alkaloids, steroids, tannins, phenols, saponins, fixed oils and fats, gums and mucilage, proteins, flavonoids and volatile oils. The evaluation of the leaf powder was supported by the physico-chemical analysis. The C. infundibuliformis showed potential antimicrobial activities against some selected strains and a maximum inhibition zone 37 mm was recorded from 200 mg of methanol extract of C. infundibuliformis against Staphylococcus aureus and minimum (10 mm) by Salmonella typhi at 50 mg of the above extract. The methanolic extract showed a maximum antifungal activity 32 mm inhibition zone was recorded from 200 mg of extract against Aspergillus flavus and minimum 9 mm by 50 mg of aqueous extract against Rhizopus indicus.

Spirulina platensis is widely used as diet supplement due to its very rich protein content. Spirulina has not been studied widely for its potential to treat the waste water. The treatment of coloured effluent or effluent with very high suspended solids using algae is complicated. These types of effluents will not allow the penetration of light for the organism to grow. This experiment has tried a novel method of clarifying the Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) using commercial polymer and then treating it by growing Spirulina. The experiment proves that Spirulina can be cultivated by using POME as partial media thereby treating the POME to qualify the standards before discharge.
